Welcome to Year 3!
Following the transition from Year 2, we encourage the children to start working more independently through a scaffolded approach. Most of the children’s English and
topic learning is encompassed within two main “mantles” where the children become experts in their companies, namely, DYNAMITE DEMOLITION and HEROES FOR HIRE.
Through these exciting themes, we research life as a Roman; use geographical skills to search for villains and celebrate the victories of heroes through a series of texts.
All children are expected to use cursive, joined handwriting in every lesson and present their work in accordance with our presentation guidelines. The majority of children in
Year 3 are “free readers” where they are encouraged to choose their own reading book and share this with you at home.
In Maths we continue to use manipulatives in lessons to help build on prior knowledge and extend their understanding. Lessons are delivered in a hands on manner and are
differentiated. We encourage group work, paired work and discussion. The weekly homework will usually consolidate the learning which has taken place during that week in
order to check their understanding.
We are proud of our open door policy and are happy to assist you with any queries or concerns. We also encourage the use of contact books for communication purposes.
Thank you for your continued support.
