Joydens Wood Junior School

On Tuesday 19th January, Joydens Wood entered their first ever Basketball Competition at Northfleet Academy. This was the qualifying heat for the Kent School Games Finals!  The week before the event, we selected 5 boys and 5 girls from Years 5/6 and they practised on Wednesday after school and for a couple of lunch times.

When we arrived at the venue, the 10 participating teams had been put into two groups and played each other for a place in the semi finals.  Our first game didn't go too well and we lost 3-0 to St. Anselms.  The next one was a 3-3 draw against Langafel and we won our final two matches.

After the points had been totalled, Joydens Wood were placed 2nd in their group playing against the reigning champions, The Brent, in the semi finals.

We played an amazing game exceeding all our expectations and won the semi final, securing our place in the finals. This was against St Anselms, who had already beaten us in our group game.  However, Joydens Wood were fantastic and had improved in each game we played.  The final score was 5-2 to us!!  We were so proud of all the children who played in the competition.

We are now off to represent Dartford in the Kent School Games on Thursday 4th February!
