Knowledge Organisers - Year 4

A knowledge organiser is a document, usually no more than one piece of A4, that contains key facts and information that children need to have a basic knowledge and understanding of an Experience they are undertaking.

Most knowledge organisers will include:

  • the essential facts about the topic, usually laid out in easily digestible chunks
  • key vocabulary or technical terms and their meanings
  • images such as maps or diagrams
  • famous quotations, if relevant.

We will send them home prior to the start of the next Experience, thus allowing the children to read them at home and begin to understand what they will be learning about. Throughout the Experience, as part of reviewing their understanding, teachers will do brief quizzes (no more than 5 questions) for pupils to undertake to see how much they can recall from their long term memory.

Knowledge organisers are used in primary and secondary schools, to assist with pre-learning and revision of knowledge and concepts pupils need to be aware of. Below are the knowledge organisers for this year group.
