Finance at Joydens Wood Junior School

The Finance Team is made up of two members of staff, Business Manager and Business/Finance Officer.  An Academy is an independent state-funded school.  This means it’s funded directly by the Government ESFA rather than by the Local Authority as maintained schools are.  This was originally a labour Government initiative launched in 2000.  Since 2010 the number of academies has risen significantly, we converted November 2011.  This means that services, including insurance, payroll, building maintenance, legal and governor services, which were previous provided by the local authority, need to be procured separately by the academy.  The finance team always seek best value and good practice.
