Joydens Wood Junior School

Severe Weather Arrangements at Joydens Wood Junior School

In the event of incidents such as adverse weather, every attempt will be made to keep the school open in order to minimise disruption to teaching & learning. However, the prime objective will be the health and safety of pupils, staff, parents/carers. Under such circumstances we will carry out a risk assessment, taking account of the conditions on site to ascertain if it is safe to keep the school open.

In the unlikely event of the school having to close due to adverse weather, a decision will be made by 7:00am. If we are aware in advance of this time, we will inform you as soon as a decision has been made. We will inform parents in the following ways:

  • Through our 'text service' -parents will receive a text alert informing them of the school closure.
  • Through the school website and Class Dojo.
  • Kent County Council also have a page informing parents of school closures. To determine whether Joydens Wood Junior School is open or closed please visit
www.kentclosures.co.uk and search for the school in the search box. The Kent Closures website can also be used to find out if other services in Kent are open
or closed, such as nurseries, children’s centres and libraries.
  • It is important that as few people as possible are phoning school between 7:00am and 9:00am so that staff are able to provide vital information.

If we are not closed, please ensure your children are wearing warm clothing – gloves, hats, scarves, wellies and even extra socks!  School shoes are also needed.

Many thanks for your support in helping the school remain open during periods of severe snow/ice.
